Ecoclean India at AeroDef India 2026 Showcasing Industrial Cleaning Solutions for Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing

Summary

India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing sector is at a defining stage. With a Union Defence Budget of ₹7.85 lakh crore (approx USD 84.3 Billion) for FY 2025-26 and a strong push under Aatmanirbhar Bharat, manufacturers are under increasing pressure to deliver world-class components reliably, repeatedly and on schedule.

But behind all this investment and ambition lies one critical factor that decides whether a component performs or fails, gets accepted or rejected, flies or stays grounded cleanliness.

This is exactly what we focused on at AeroDef India 2026 and the response at our stall clearly showed that this discussion was both relevant and timely.

Why Cleaning Is Not Just a Step but a Process

In aerospace and defence manufacturing, contamination is not only a quality issue it is a safety concern.

Even very small particles, often invisible to the naked eye, can lead to serious failures. A fuel line can get blocked, a hydraulic valve may fail, or a bearing can seize. Components exposed to contamination as small as 100 microns can face critical failure. That is roughly one tenth the diameter of a human hair. This risk is especially high in turbines, fuel systems and hydraulic applications.

At the same time, cleanliness requirements have become significantly more demanding over the years. Tighter particle limits, stricter surface cleanliness requirements and higher material compatibility expectations are now standard. Standards such as NAS 1638, AS4059, IEST-STD-CC1246E, ISO 16232 and AS9100 are no longer optional they are expected.

The Real Cost of Getting It Wrong

When cleaning does not meet the required specifications, the consequences are immediate. Parts are rejected and in some cases, entire batches may need to be scrapped. The direct cost of material loss and labour is significant.

However, the long-term impact can be even more serious. If contamination is discovered after dispatch or during assembly, rework costs increase, delivery timelines are affected and reliability concerns arise. In critical applications, the consequences go far beyond financial loss.

For India’s growing aerospace and defence supply chain, especially MSMEs and Tier 2 suppliers supporting programmes like LCA Tejas, HAL platforms, and BrahMos integration, this is a real and immediate challenge.

The Challenges We See Every Day

During our discussions at AeroDef India 2026, several common challenges were consistently highlighted:

  1. Complex shapes and hard-to-reach areas:
Blind holes, internal threads and narrow channels in engine components and actuator housings are areas where contamination tends to remain and standard spray cleaning methods often cannot reach effectively.
  2. Cleaning mixed materials:
Materials such as titanium, Inconel, aluminium alloys and composites are often processed on the same production line. Each requires a different cleaning approach without affecting the others.
  3. Moving away from traditional solvents:
Many manufacturers still use solvents like trichloroethylene for degreasing, which are now classified as hazardous. With tightening global regulations, there is a clear need to transition towards safer and compliant solutions.
  4. Documentation and traceability:
Defence applications require full documentation, including process parameters, cleanliness data and batch traceability. Manual cleaning setups struggle to meet these requirements consistently.
  5. Scaling without compromise:
With India’s defence export targets increasing, production volumes are growing. Cleaning systems must scale accordingly while maintaining consistent performance.
